Such devastating news to begin our Friday, as Dreamhack: Melbourne has announced that the 2025 event will be canceled, with no plans to return to Australia. This is especially difficult since the 2024 Dreamhack: Melbourne was a significant highlight for many of us Australian creators.
Thanks to the creativity and hard work of Kerrie and their incredible team, this event exploded into the must do gathering for creators. It brings together a diverse mix of talent from various fields, offering a unique chance to forge lasting memories and friendships. Creators can enjoy streaming booths, engaging panel discussions, and exciting meet-and-greet opportunities, ensuring that everyone has access to experiences that might otherwise be out of reach. mOB attended Dreamhack: Melbourne for both 2024 and 2023.
However, this year's convention was the most enjoyable we've experienced! With hundreds of Australian and international content creators gathering, magic was truly bound to happen.
We dedicated much of our time on Rainbow Road capturing videos of as many creators as possible. We had the opportunity to meet and connect with numerous individuals we might not have encountered if not for Dreamhack: Melbourne. We are forever grateful for the hard work of every team member who made Dreamhack: Melbourne incredible.
The sudden cancellation of Dreamhack: Melbourne has left a lot of us in the Australian gaming and convention scene feeling pretty bummed. This event was a lively celebration of gaming culture that brought people together and showcased amazing talent. Now that it’s gone, there’s a noticeable gap, and you can really see it in the flood of sad posts and memories on social media.
Dreamhack: Melbourne wasn’t just another convention; it connected gamers and fans alike. With its cancellation, the community is trying to wrap its head around what this means for future gaming events in Australia. The heartfelt reactions show just how much the event was loved and how much it will be missed.
One of my favorite moments was the hilarious Trivia event hosted by ZombieLvBacon and GameTrain to raise funds for GenerOZity. I truly believe Classic Middleton is a comedic genius, and anyone planning a panel with a humorous aspect should definitely include him.
I'll be watching vlog content to keep me reminiscing for hours, if you wanna watch some great ones, jump onto Tiktok and checking out some Aussie creators like; Owldamone, 8bitElliot, and POGStream to name a few. I could go on for hours
With Dreamhack: Melbourne not coming back to Australia, you might be looking for more conventions to attend. Seeking something BIG with large-scale events? PAX Aus is the way to go. Prefer something smaller and more relaxed but still uniting communities? Check out The Game Expo.
I honestly believe Dreamhack: Melbourne changed the expectation for all conventions after it. They showed if you support your local content creators, they show up for you. Giving communities a space to meet and share their knowledge will always be worth the work put in. Thanks again to Kerrie for looking after us all and making Dreamhack: Melbourne the pinnacle of gaming events.
